We believe that the strength of a community lies in its people and thats when people work together, they can create sustainable livelihoods and lasting opportunities.
Cooperation is not a new idea. Our communities have practised collective economic activity for generations, through traditions such as ilima, where people came together to achieve what would have been difficult to accomplish individually. Today, the cooperative model brings this same spirit of collective action into the modern economy, built on self-help, shared responsibility, democratic participation, equality and solidarity.
DNP immerses itself in communities by doing more than simply registering cooperatives. We walk alongside them. We monitor their development, provide guidance when challenges arise, and help connect cooperatives with government, funding institutions, businesses and other organisations where communication and coordination are needed.
Our Community
We also recognise that bigger does not always mean stronger. When cooperatives become too large and members have little meaningful connection with one another, participation and accountability can become difficult. DNP therefore promotes a practical approach to creating manageable, connected and accountable cooperative structures, including the participation of established legal entities represented by designated members.
Our vision of cooperation extends far beyond agriculture. Communities have different needs, and those needs can give rise to retail, consumer, housing, social, business, employment, utility, credit and other forms of cooperatives.
The opportunity is enormous but opportunity needs people, structure and guidance to turn potential into progress.
